Our Salt Cell Cleaning Process
Step 1: Test water chemistry first
Before I touch the equipment, I test your water. High cyanuric acid, low salt levels, or wildly out-of-balance pH can cause false 'dirty cell' symptoms. I make sure the cell is actually the problem before proceeding.
Step 2: Power down the salt system
I safely isolate the power at the breaker so the control board is completely dark. This protects the sensitive electronics from power surges when the cell is disconnected.
Step 3: Remove cell, inspect plates, photograph baseline
I loosen the unions, pull the cell out, and inspect the internal titanium plates. I take a quick photo so you can see exactly how much scale was blocking the chlorine production.
Step 4: Mild muriatic acid bath (4:1 water to acid) for 3-5 minutes
I mix a highly diluted acid bath, always 4 parts water to 1 part acid. I never use high-strength acid because it strips the delicate iridium coating right off the plates. We let it fizz for just 3 to 5 minutes until the scale is dissolved.
Step 5: Rinse, reinstall, restart, verify output
After a thorough fresh water rinse, I reinstall the cell, check the O-rings, and power the system back on. Finally, I verify the control board is reading the correct salt level and producing chlorine again.
